Understanding Smart Meters & Radio Frequency
SECC’s Radio Frequency and Smart Meters Fact Sheet addresses the concerns voiced by consumers, using research prepared by credible sources such as the California Council on Science and Technology, EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute), and others. Along with stringent FCC standards to protect consumers, current scientific evidence shows there is no known risk associated with radio frequency emissions. There are many everyday items consumers use that emit more radio waves than smart meters.
In order to shed light on this issue, our fact sheet takes some of the known research and summarizes it into an easy to read consumer guide to the issue and includes graphics to help readers visualize the concepts. This is the first in a series of fact sheets to help address consumer concerns and educate everyone involved. View the rest of SECC's Consumer Information Kit for the Smart Grid here.
