Ecotagious is an industry-wide leader in energy analytics and home energy management.
Ecotagious turns utility data into energy savings for utility clients. Its SaaS-based Powerful Insights™ platform leverages machine learning, smart meter disaggregation and behavioral science to provide utilities’ residential customers with appliance-level feedback and personalized insights across all channels.
Ecotagious has recently been recognized as a top private company in the cleantech sector by Rocket Builders and by Fast Company as one of the top 12 companies in the world with a world leading-edge solution to address issues facing the energy sector.
Ecotagious has been disaggregating natural gas and electric meter data to segment utilities’ residential customers and deliver average energy savings of 3.2 percent for electricity + 2.1 percent for natural gas, more than 70 percent increase in DSM program participation and a five percent increase in customer satisfaction and engagement across many third-party verified programs delivered since 2013.
By combining their unique disaggregation model, behavioral science and machine learning, they’re able to help utilities:
Ecotagious has successfully designed and implemented next-generation Home Energy Report (HER) programs for large and small natural gas and electric utilities in the United States, Canada and other international markets.
Ecotagious specializes in using disaggregation to identifying the signatures of major appliances from existing smart meter data, without any additional hardware required, and accurately translate them into insightful findings for each of the utility’s customers.
These include a breakdown of the energy used by major appliances, personalized insights, peer comparisons and tailored savings recommendations.
This helps to:
Motivate: Using Relevant Peer Comparisons
The Relevant Peer Comparison provides normative messaging designed to motivate customers to save. The customer’s consumption data is compared with similar homes which form the peer group.
Focus Efforts: Using an Energy Use Breakdown
After customers have seen how they compare to their peers and are motivated to act, the first question they typically ask is “where do I start?” By providing each customer with a breakdown of their energy use and directing them to the loads that are most relevant, Ecotagious can quickly focus their attention on what matters most in their unique situation.
Drive Action Using Tailored Recommendations
The Savings Recommendations are actions and tips that have been selected based on each customer's unique energy usage breakdown. Ecotagious’ energy analysis modeling engine generates energy-saving recommendations and computes energy savings dynamically based on the loads each customer is using.
These insights are delivered across multiple channels ranging from print, email, web, app and API integration to consumer engagement platforms and voice assistants – all driving toward a single, clear action. As a result, Ecotagious’ clients see industry-leading energy savings, average five percent increase in utility customer satisfaction, six percent increase in smart meter satisfaction and 14 percent reduction in customer churn.
Ecotagious’ personalized reports motivate customers to make changes to their energy use by providing social benchmarking, a unique energy consumption breakdown as well as personalized recommendations and calculated savings estimates. Each report includes personalized tips that range from low-effort behavioral to those requiring some sort of capital investment and/or higher effort.
The Ecotagious report design has proven to drive behavior change and increase program participation by 70 percent or more.
The combination of smart grid and smart home, all powered by data collection and analysis, creates a whole new world in the energy efficiency and demand side management arenas.
Utilities benefit through well-designed programs that cost less and return more. They’re more actively engaged with their customers and gain reputation as a forward-thinking, trusted advisor. Utility customers benefit through lower energy bills and higher satisfaction.
