Con Edison is a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the nation’s largest investor-owned energy companies, with approximately $12 billion in annual revenues and $49 billion in assets. The utility delivers electricity, natural gas and steam to 3.4 million customers in New York City and Westchester County, N.Y. For financial, operations and customer service information, visit conEd.com. For energy efficiency information, visit conEd.com/EnergyEfficiency.
Since 2009, more than 600,000 customers have taken advantage of Con Edison’s impressive energy efficiency portfolio, which now includes 25 electric and 10 gas programs.
Upgrades made through these programs have helped to prevent 1.4 million tons of carbon emissions –the equivalent of taking nearly 300,000 cars off the road – and saved nearly 1.8 million megawatt hours of usage.
Con Edison is the sixth largest solar producer in North America. The company recently collaborated with EnterSolar to convert 10 acres of unused, industrial land in Staten Island into New York’s largest solar system. With more than 9,000 individual solar panels, the 3.1 MW (DC) system is designed to generate almost four million kilowatt hours of clean solar power per year – enough to power about 500 homes and businesses on Staten Island.
Another endeavor is the online Marketplace. Here, customers can compare energy-saving products by energy score, price and customer reviews, plus apply for instant or mail-in rebates and purchase LEDs and smart thermostats. Additionally, customers can receive bids for solar systems through a partnership with Pick My Solar, a concierge service aiming to simplify the experience of going solar.
The new Con Edison Cars site includes information on the costs and environmental impact of buying and owning various car models, including plug-in electric vehicles and hybrids. It also helps car buyers in New York see the benefits of choosing an electric vehicle, including rebates and tax breaks and the estimated fuel costs.
Con Edison has various programs specifically designed for residential, multifamily, small business and commercial and industrial customers.
To date, the company has put more than 1.4 million LEDs into the hands of customers, whether through sales or giveaways. This simple lighting upgrade has saved nearly 54,000,000 kWh.
The C&I program has helped about 6,000 buildings operate more efficiently with solutions for lighting, chilling, plumbing and more.
Electric vehicles are also on the forefront of the push toward greater energy efficiency. Con Edison is helping towns and customers learn why electric vehicles can benefit them and how to prepare for more of them on the road.
The Smart Kids program has helped more than 183,000 fifth graders get energy wise since its start in 2016. Students receive a kit full of energy-efficient products to take home and help educate their parents about how to make their homes more energy efficient.
Smart AC brings comfort and energy efficiency together. The program offers customers a free device to control their room A/C on the go – customers can return to a cool home without running their A/C all day. More than 60,000 Smart AC kits have been distributed over the life of the program.
With programs that reach 10 million New Yorkers in homes and businesses of all sizes, along with some of the most famous institutions in the world, Con Edison is helping to keep the City That Never Sleeps running as efficiently as possible around the clock – without ever dimming its shine.
