Smart Cities: We're All In This Together
Creating livable, sustainable cities is a major challenge of the 21st century as an increasing amount of the world’s population resides in urban areas. Using smart tech, city officials can interact directly with the community and the city’s infrastructure to monitor what’s happening in the city, how the city is evolving and what new services may be needed – with the end goal of enabling a better quality of life for all residents.
More specifically, a smart city is a modernized urban area where everything – from transit to schools to utilities – can be connected to digital technology that enables the two-way transfer of information from the city to the citizens. SECC’s Smart Cities: We're All In This Together Fact Sheet explores why consumers should care about smart cities, why grid modernization is a critical component and examples from around the country.
