Educating Consumers on Time-of-Use Rates

Nathan Shannon from SECC joined by Kari Binley from ecobee, Jesse Smith from Demand Side Analytics, Karen McCord from SMUD and Helen Werner from SMUD to look at how stakeholders can help consumers engage in time-of-use (TOU) rates, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kari Binley discussed ecobee’s TOU optimization feature that was developed to help consumers increase savings from their smart thermostats. Jesse Smith shared findings from a third-party study on the impact of this feature and what it means for utilities with TOU programs. And Karen McCord and Helen Werner discussed SMUD's transition to Time-of-Day Rates last year and the challenges that needed to be overcome during this move.
